Savannah Kids Portraits

September 30, 2010

I have concluded that photographing kids is one of my favorite things to do. It is a fun challenge chasing them around and trying to get interesting photos of them that are colorful, sharp and show their personalities. I find that I like a lot of shots that have eye contact, eyes being windows to the soul and all. But yet, I still like them to be candid moments. And really, they all have to be candid. Have you ever tried to pose a child?! It’s next to impossible.

I met this wonderful family that live in Savannah when I photographed their grandfather’s 100th birthday party a little over a year ago. I was happy to see them again to do some family portraits down at one of their favorite spots, the marina. Editing these photos made me smile.

When kids fall in the grass and roll around you might as well go down with them!

There was lots of action and movement with two boys around!

These guys found this spot on their own, it was perfect for them.

Don’t you wonder what he’s smiling about?

A treat for being such a great model.

You can tell we’re in the Lowcountry.

I still can’t believe I have a baby. He’s my favorite art project. A total muse.

I miss him when he’s napping.

Through the Eyes of a Four Year Old

September 24, 2010

Once a year and always around his birthday, I enjoy taking Charles’ photo. This year, he was full of personality and chatting up a storm. He wanted to know why I change lenses on my camera and was totally into being photographed. Charles, you can model for me anytime!

Here’s to celebrating being 4!

Charleston Mother & Child Magazine

September 22, 2010

Charleston has a new magazine and is called Charleston Mother & Child. It is a free publication and is distributed to all the new moms at the hospital. You can also find it around town in a lot of the children shops. It is full of excellent info from maternity to babies and toddlers. There are some cute birthday party and fashion spreads in there as well as info on on the cute Charleston boutiques and designing your nursery.

I was honored to be included in their inaugural issue as a “Photo Profile” for local children photographers! Having my own new baby just makes me enjoy photographing children even more. Not only has little Seamus become my practice model for new ideas, but he also inspires me to take more photos that really capture and freeze those everyday moments in time.

Here’s a shot of the cover so you know what to look for.

And here’s the spread on Leigh Webber Photography. Thanks to cute little Alice for being my star model in the photo on the right! This was form her 9-month old portrait session back in May. I love this action shot of her in the swing!

Alice Goes to the Beach!

September 16, 2010

It’s hard to believe that a whole year has gone by! I started photographing little Alice when she was 6 weeks old and have photographed here every three months ever since. Each time, we’ve varied the location a bit, but always focused on capturing Alice in her truest form, as herself.

I love looking back at her 6 week old photos and comparing them to how she looks now. It’s amazing how much changes in a year and how quickly they grow. Since having a baby in August, that’s probably the one thing I’ve been told the most often, “Time Flies” and “The next thing you know he’ll be in kindergarten.”

So here’s to celebrating Alice’s first year with lots of photos! View the progression through the year here: 6 weeks, 6 months, 9 months and her 1 year portraits below.

These two are some of the most stylish mother and daughters I know!

She’s such a pretty little girl!

Since having a baby of my own, I now recognize how special the little things are, like Alice’s dad holding her hand so gently.

Learning to walk!

This is another one of my favorites.

This one just makes me laugh. Part hula dancer, part ballerina.

Uncle Diego

September 9, 2010

For anyone who knows our chihuahua Diego, you know that he’s a grumpy little 7 pounder who won’t hesitate to bite your ankles and draw blood. That collar he’s wearing, it has little devils on it. It is no surprise then that his nickname is “Diablo”.

When Seamus was born, my parents graciously offered to take him for a little while as we didn’t want him around a newborn. But surprisingly, he has done very well and is still living with is. This is probably because Seamus ignores him and hasn’t learned to taunt him yet or throw peas at him for that matter.

In hopes that these two might actually be buds one day, I occasionally let Diego sniff him. Diego has also gotten a hold of a diaper or two and hopefully he has leaned his lesson about eating those moisture absorbing gel pellets. Yuck.

Anyway, it was an unplanned and fortuitous moment to catch these two together in a photo. Seamus was all propped up for a few photos when up walked “El Diablo” to give him a sniff. Awww. This may never happen again.
