Seabrook Family Portrait Session

May 31, 2012

I photographed Tyler & Jay’s wedding on Seabrook Island 6 years ago, back before I ever had a blog to reference here with a link. I was thrilled to hear from Tyler who asked me to photograph their family of 4 recently on Seabrook. We stood there on the beach and could see where they had gotten married. It’s amazing to think how much can happen in 6 years!

The spot where we did their family beach portraits is a very special spot to their family. It is where Jay proposed to Tyler, among other things. So it was the perfect place to return to for their photos. Here’s to more reunions with couples whose weddings I’ve photographed!

It was also exciting to hear that Tyler now has her own photography business, Tyler Plank Photography. She photographs newborns, children and families and is based out of Bethesda, MD. So if you live up that way, she’s a wonderful person to contact to photograph your babies!

More Innocence Lost

May 29, 2012

Today Seamus starts at a new school. One where there are no sippy cups allowed and he has to eat with utensils. I sure am glad I don’t have to witness that meltdown.

He’s one of the youngest in the class and after orientation last week, I don’t think he’ll have any trouble keeping up. He can “not share” with the best of them and I think I saw him get in his first fight. His bottom lip was out to Kansas as he put the stalwart grip on a Little People plane he had no intention of sharing.

I’m a little sad but mostly relieved that his day will consist of more than 3 hours of child care. It used to be that I  would run frantically around town trying to get a day’s worth of work done all while he attended yoga and music class at his former nursery school. The tide has changed little man. Now I get to exercise and drink my coffee leisurely while you study utensil etiquette and sharing 101. Good luck, I’ll miss you!

Charleston Engagement Session with Haley & Nich

May 25, 2012

One of the lessons I’ve learned after yeas of photographing people outdoors is that retreating storms bring about the best light. When I woke up that morning, we were under a tropical storm watch for Alberto, who seems to develop out of the blue the night before. I was ready to reschedule the engagement session, but luckily, Haley didn’t get my text! So we met on an early Sunday morning down at the Battery and the conditions couldn’t have been any better. In addition to great light, there weren’t too many tourists out and even better, these two love the camera! I’m looking forward to their wedding in a few months for more smiles and fun photos.

Laura: Bridal Portrait at Lowndes Grove

May 22, 2012

I love doing bridal portraits. This one with gorgeous bride Laura was no exception. We had a morning shoot at Lowndes Grove and it was such a treat to take advantage of that great morning light!

Check out the belt she is wearing with her dress, which she found at Maddison Row. I love it! Tanesha Dupree of Affair Hair by Tanesha did her gorgeous hair and Elizabeth Quinton of EQ Makeup did her makeup to perfection.

Her wedding was this past weekend, so more to come from that soon! It was held at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian with the reception at the William Aiken House and was designed by Mary Susan Henderson of Southern Protocol.

Smitten Magazine: Perfectly Polished

May 14, 2012

I LOVE color, so it was exciting to see the most recent issue of Smitten, which is all about… you guessed it, COLOR!  Becky Hoppmann, Smitten‘s cretive director and I got together to photograph the lovely baubles of color and debate which were our faves.

Lover.ly even shared one of the photos we took of the sparkly polish we used, that was exciting! Have you tried Lover.ly yet? So cool! It’s like Pinterest but just for wedding inspiration. It’s completely visual and you can even search by color.

Renee & Don’s Reception at the Gaillard-Bennett House

May 8, 2012

I hope that you saw yesterday’s post and got to read a little bit about Renee & Don’s intimate wedding at the Gaillard Bennett House. Today, I are showing a few of my faves from the reception, which was an alfresco dinner party.

Duvall created a light and fresh menu that began with chilled oysters, cured salmon carpaccio, a caprese salad with yellow tomatoes and an antipasto plate. As the sun went down, gusts enjoyed beef braised short rib and a lemon and herb marinated flaky fish, followed, of course, by wedding cake.

The Charleston Virtuoso string quartet played as guests ate next to the fountain and under the stars.

Congratulations Don & Renee!

Renee & Don’s Wedding at the Gaillard-Bennett House

May 7, 2012

Renee and Don are a couple after my own heart. They held an intimate wedding ceremony and dinner at the Gaillard Bennett House in downtown historic Charleston. This is one of the most beautiful, photogenic and under the radar wedding venues in town. They had an absolutely perfect April day for their wedding. As guests arrived, they enjoyed the much loved gardens and tinkling fountains while sipping cocktails and lemonade.

One of Renee’s nephews rang a gong to signal the start of the ceremony and guests weaved through the gardens to the ceremony site. Duvall hung crystals and flowers from the trees and the string quartet Charleston Virtuoso played. Renee’s two nephews served as ring bearers and had the all important task of carrying the actual wedding bands, not just stand-in bands. Afterwards, we did a group photo of all 30 guests by the pool, which is a fun thing to do with small groups.

After a cocktail hour, one of the most amazing alfresco dinner parties followed. It was like something out of a movie, the type of party you dream of being invited to. The weather was perfect, the lighting was gorgeous, and the food looked divine.

Today’s post features photos up through the ceremony and tomorrow’s post will showcase the dinner party. Enjoy

Renee wore a 20′s style wedding dress that she found at White and she looked stunning.

I love these sweet moments as the guests arrived. Usually, the bride is sequestered away, but Don and Renee chose to arrive together to their wedding.

So sweet!

Gorgeous, huh?

Mr. & Mrs.

A fun shot of all the lucky guests. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s feature on their alfresco dinner party that followed!
